Our Story

Hum London is a creative studio specialising in decorative lampshades, each one made by hand in England, founded by sisters Ellie and Hermione Gee.

What began in 2020 with a small edit of hand‑painted lampshades has grown into a broader exploration of lighting - from pieces made from antique textiles to our signature perforated designs.

Our passion lies in designing and making lighting that is beautiful, soulful and atmospheric. Whether that might be the delicate pinholes in our perforated lampshades that twinkle when lit, or the way the paintbrush leaves subtle texture on our hand-painted designs - we’re all about making lampshades that look beautiful from afar, and become even more special up close.

Our work is rooted in a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, and we’re proud to work with a third generation, family-run workshop to make our lampshades here in the UK. Producing in small batches allows us to honour traditional skills, avoid overproduction, and keep quality at the heart of what we do. From the materials we choose to the way we package and ship, every decision is made with care to reduce our environmental impact.

Our lampshades are suitable for a variety of fittings, from wall lights and table lamps to pendants, and can be custom-made in different shapes and sizes. We also offer a bespoke design service — often a collaborative process, this could involve anything from one-off designs to simple adaptations of our core collection, such as painting a shade in a bespoke colour.
